The orgin of this symbol is not known for sure but many give credit to John Wallis who introduced it in the De sectionibus conicis. They say it was derived from the Roman and Etruscan numeral 1000. An orgin of this symbol could also be from the Greek letter w (omega), which is the last letter in there alphabet.
An infinity symbol that is carved into wood represents everlasting beauty in some tribal tradition. This symbol was also used on the Metis flag and is the oldest patriotic flag of Canada.
